The heroic story of my grandmother and grandfather who immigrated from Denmark in 1882.
Bestefar (Danish for Grandfather) and his first wife came to the United States and had seven children. When his wife became terminally ill, she asked him to send money to Denmark for her sister to come raise her children.
When the letter arrived in Denmark, she said "No way am I crossing the ocean and going out there where all those Indians are."
Her 19 year-old daughter said, "I'll go."
She came to Nebraska, married Bestefar, raised his seven children and they had 14 more.
BECOMING BESTEMOR is a novel based on all the fact we have. It is the story of hardship, great love, and tangled family relationships. Many family secrets are revealed as well as how she transformed her life and that of all her female descendants.
